My self and Scott Newman both entered this race today.
As promised, the road along the waterfront at Erskine was closed off, the circuit started on the road but then cut throught a small car park onto the walk way along the water front, then back onto the road. In the middle of circuit was the real radio road show and a few trials riders doing tricks and entertaining the crowd.
From the start it was a ferocious pace and a few riders got tangled and went down on the 2nd lap,, lucky escape as they were right in front of me, the group had split probably by the 3rd lap (didnt have time too look over my shoulder) I was in the break away group and was hanging onto the rear of the pack for a few laps, things didnt really let up for the first 20 minutes, the speed going through the corners was mental. Out of the 3 sprints I went for the 2nd, but missed it by and inch on the line, our group had eased up a lot going onto the straights allowing riders to join back on, I took the front for 2 laps at one point I was pushing hard to seperate the others riders that had managed to get back on. Things started to get more tactical towards the last 6 laps, i was on the front a good few times, till i finally went for a break with 3 laps to go, i opened a huge gap but killed my self in the process, the group caught me and as soon as they did a few riders attacked and blew the pack apart. Not sure what my position was but scott went past me in the last 30 meters after hiding at the back of the pack. I was goosed, but had a great day out. Giving much support were Robert stevenson and helpful wife, David Stevenson along with Alan Holmes whos son had competed in the youths race

you missed the end of the actual championship though, one of the dooleys guy sprinted a lap early, celebrated hands in air and everything then crashed after realising he still had a lap to go, a case of everything to nothing in 30 seconds! poor guy, he'll probably never live it down!

A great day in many respects. First my boy did his 1st ever race, not a great start where he nearly fell, so a bit off the back in last place at the first corner. 10 mins and 1 lap doesnt seem a lot, but by the finish he was totally done in... Not sure where he came but first 5 were all on roadbikes, think he was 7th or as I like to tell him 2nd mountain biker! He wants to try again next year.

Good to see Matt and Scott in the 'support race' and it really was a full out effort for 95% of the race. Big effort by Scott taking around 3 laps to get back to the lead group. Matt was mixing at the front a fair bit and a pity his attack didnt work out near the end. Timed some of the laps at 1 min 16 secs, pretty fast for a 1.1k circuit!

Champs event was fast..... Dooley's team doing a lot on the front Paul Rennie did a 2 arm victory 1 lap too soon then crashed!! He was gutted. Last years victor Kevin Barkley won again, Arthur Doyle 3rd having done around 25% powering on the front.

Great family day out with lots to do and loads of free stuff esp for kids. 'Clan' stunt guys were amazing. Plan is for bigger and better next year, closing off Paisley town centre.... So as Arnie says 'I'll be back' :D

Cheers Alan
