The course used for the Billy Warnock Memorial race was pretty flat with only a couple of short sharp hills at Cowie. The route was a 15 mile circuit that was completed 5 times with a small 3 mile finishing circuit. Route mainly used main A roads through Airth and Thorsk before turning onto B roads to Cowie and Larbert.
The road conditions of the course were very good with the marshalls at all of the major junctions and the weather was even good after a cold start when travelling up to Grangemouth as the fog in places was quite thick but by the end of the race the weather was glorious and hot.

The race had close to 80 riders in it ranging from Elite guys from Endura - who were favourites - to 3rd cats, like me trying to hang on to the pace.
With the course being reasonably flat the pace was fast and at every corner the pace would accelerate as the group would try and drop some people if it was possible. Going through Airth there were alot of traffic bollards that had to be negotiated as the church traffic would be on one side of the road and the bollards are in the middle that meant riders had to go on the opposite lane. Getting near Cowie on the back roads there was a short sharp hill that raised up about 50m then one minute later there was another short steep climb going through Cowie. Both of these short hills are a test of stamina after fast speed on the flat roads beforehand. The last part of the course was on country style roads that allowed the high speed to be maintained.

A breakaway managed to get a minute gap over the peleton - which I was in - but the gap was steadily eroded being caught on the last lap.
The finishing circuit was a 3 mile straight out and back around the roundabout but my legs had gone, trying to accelerate on the last part my quads cramped up pretty badly and managed to finish in the main bunch.

Well done Scott, sounds like a hard shift, you did well to make the early break and you finished in amongst a handy lot of riders.

Also, well done on your recent promotion to 3rd cat. :D

Cheers
